MAPRx Sends Letter to HHS on Proposed Part D Changes
Earlier today, the MAPRx Coalition and 38 health advocacy organizations sent a letter to Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Designee Xavier Becerra in opposition to recent proposed changes to Medicare Part D, including the longstanding six protected classes policy.
The changes, announced on January 19 in the final days of the previous administration, circumvent current law and allow Part D plan sponsors flexibility within the six protected classes policy and enable them to significantly restrict drug coverage to one drug per class for all drugs covered under Part D. The Coalition believes these changes would undermine beneficiary protections and could not only limit the ability of beneficiaries to access needed medications, but also jeopardize the health of those with serious and chronic conditions.
